What should you do when only 90 days remain for JEE Main?

The most effective JEE Main 90-day strategy is a marks-recovery plan, not full-syllabus panic. Divide it into Days 1–30 for repair, Days 31–60 for PYQ-driven consolidation, and Days 61–90 for mocks plus revision. Study for 5–7 net hours, not a claimed 12–14. Prioritise chapters that can become exam-usable within days, and never spend weeks rescuing one difficult chapter.

Your aim is to increase the number of questions you can solve correctly under time pressure, not finish every pending lecture or book. A chapter counts as prepared only when you can handle its standard JEE Main questions without repeatedly opening your notes.

No timetable can guarantee a percentile. Your result depends on your current level, paper difficulty, accuracy, question selection and performance on the actual day. This timetable gives you a controlled process, not a promised rank.

Use this order:

  1. Take one recent full paper under exam conditions.
  2. Classify every chapter using PYQ performance.
  3. Repair chapters that can improve quickly.
  4. Solve PYQs immediately after revision.
  5. Begin tests before the syllabus feels complete.
  6. Analyse errors and revise them on fixed days.

A chapter that needs three focused days to become usable is usually a better investment than one that consumes two weeks and still produces no correct answers.

What daily timetable should you follow for the next 90 days?

A dropper or full-study student should target 7 net hours, while a student attending school should target about 5.5 net hours. These are hours spent learning, solving, revising or analysing tests. Meals, travel, breaks and sitting with an open book do not count. Coaching must replace a study block, not get added on top of seven self-study hours.

What does a seven-hour full-study timetable look like?

Use four fixed blocks: two hours each for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, followed by one hour of mixed revision. You may change the subject order, but keep the duration and purpose of each block. This gives a repeatable 7-hour plan without counting meals, breaks or passive sitting.

Full-study or dropper day

  • 6:30–8:30 am, 2 hours: Physics concept repair followed by solved questions or PYQs
  • 9:00–11:00 am, 2 hours: Chemistry NCERT revision, reactions or formulas, followed by questions

Keep the evening available for exercise, family duties, coaching homework or a short review of the next day’s tasks. Do not convert every free hour into another heavy study block. The schedule must remain repeatable for 90 days.

What timetable should a school student follow?

A school student should use three blocks totalling 5.5 net hours: two hours before school, two hours in the early evening and 1.5 hours at night. This plan accepts that classes, travel and homework already use mental energy. It is more workable than a decorative 12-hour plan that collapses after four days.

School-day timetable

  • 5:00–7:00 am, 2 hours: Main repair subject
  • 5:00–7:00 pm, 2 hours: Second subject, preferably question practice
  • 8:00–9:30 pm, 1.5 hours: Third subject, revision or error correction
  • Total net study: 5.5 hours

On heavy school days, keep the morning block and one evening block. Move only the most valuable unfinished task to the weekly buffer. Do not steal time from sleep to preserve an artificial daily total.

What should a mock-test day look like?

A mock-test day should include three hours for the paper, two hours for analysis and two hours for targeted repair. The analysis must identify why marks were lost, while the repair block should address the three highest-value weaknesses. A three-hour paper without this follow-up is measurement, not preparation.

Mock-test day timetable

  • 9:00 am–12:00 pm, 3 hours: Full paper under exam conditions
  • 2:00–4:00 pm, 2 hours: Paper analysis and error classification
  • 5:00–7:00 pm, 2 hours: Targeted repair of the three highest-value weaknesses
  • Total work: 7 hours

Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Study hours must not be increased by cutting sleep. Poor sleep damages recall, calculation control and question selection, precisely the skills a mock is meant to train.

A lecture counts as study only when you solve questions or PYQs from that topic in the same block. After a short lecture, reserve at least half the block for active work.

If you attend two hours of coaching, replace the matching Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics block with coaching. Do not attend coaching for two hours and then force seven more self-study hours into the same day. Use the next available self-study block to solve the coaching material.

How should you divide time between Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics?

Begin with 35% Physics, 35% Chemistry and 30% Mathematics, then modify the split using one recent full paper attempted under exam conditions. Equal time is usually wrong because the three subjects do not offer the same recovery speed. Give your weakest subject more time only when those hours can realistically convert into marks within 90 days.

For a seven-hour day, use this starting allocation:

  • Physics, 35%: About 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Chemistry, 35%: About 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Mathematics, 30%: About 2 hours 10 minutes

Daily blocks do not have to match these figures exactly. Balance them across the week. A two-hour subject block is easier to execute than a block ending at an awkward minute.

How should the diagnostic paper change your subject split?

Take one recent full JEE Main paper before finalising your timetable. Use the official exam duration, avoid notes and do not pause the timer. Record attempted questions, correct answers, incorrect answers, unattempted questions and time used in each subject. Use this evidence to decide where extra study time can produce marks.

Do not automatically give the weakest subject the most hours. If a subject is weak because prerequisites are missing across most chapters, sudden extra time may produce little return. A moderately weak subject with several recoverable chapters may deserve the larger share.

After the paper, attempt 15 representative PYQs from each chapter you are considering. Classify each chapter as follows:

  • Green, 10–15 correct: Maintain through mixed practice and short revision
  • Amber, 5–9 correct: Give this chapter most of your repair time
  • Red, 0–4 correct: Take it up only if prerequisites are manageable and the likely return justifies the time

Amber chapters are the centre of this JEE Main 90-day strategy. They already contain partial knowledge, so formula repair, focused theory and timed PYQs can often convert them into usable chapters quickly.

Why can Chemistry produce quicker marks recovery?

Chemistry can often recover faster because NCERT-based revision, reaction recall and repeated question patterns provide direct practice targets. This is most useful when you have studied a chapter once but cannot retrieve facts or apply standard methods. Such chapters often need recall work and PYQs rather than another complete lecture series.

Read with a question target. Revise one limited section, close the book, write what you remember, then solve relevant questions. Do not spend an entire day highlighting NCERT without testing recall.

Why does Physics need repair, formula recall and timed PYQs?

Physics needs three linked tasks: concept repair, formula recall and timed PYQs. Passive theory watching addresses only concept exposure and does not prove that you can apply the idea under time pressure. Every repaired topic should therefore end with independent question attempts, followed by timed work once the basic method is stable.

For each repaired topic, write a short formula sheet and solve questions under increasing time pressure. If you understand the solution after seeing it but cannot start the question independently, the topic is not yet green.

Why should you study fewer Mathematics chapters when behind?

Fewer Mathematics chapters at a reliable solving level are better than superficial exposure to every chapter. Mathematics often requires longer practice before speed and pattern recognition develop. Select chapters where prerequisites are present and diagnostic performance is amber, then take those chapters to a timed question-solving level.

Do not watch five hours of theory across five new chapters and call that coverage. Reliable attempts from fewer chapters are more useful than partial familiarity with the full syllabus.

What mistakes make a 90-day JEE Main plan fail?

A 90-day plan fails when study hours go into low-feedback work such as finishing videos, rereading notes and collecting books. The score remains unchanged because questions, mocks and error analysis are delayed. Every study block should produce evidence through attempted questions, accuracy, revised chapters or a repaired error category.

Avoid these specific traps:

  • Finishing every backlog lecture before solving: Questions reveal which parts of a lecture you actually need. Start chapter-wise PYQs early.
  • Using one-shots as entertainment: Every short lecture must end with 20–30 relevant questions or PYQs. Otherwise, it was video consumption.
  • Starting new books: Finish relevant coaching sheets, NCERT and PYQs before buying or downloading another source.
  • Waiting for syllabus completion before mocks: The syllabus may never feel complete. Tests expose selection and time-management errors.
  • Counting only the three-hour mock: Reserve another 90–120 minutes for analysis. A useful analysis may be mentally harder than the paper.
  • Changing the timetable after every bad test: Diagnose whether the loss came from concepts, recall, calculation, reading or question selection.
  • Tracking pages and video hours: Track questions attempted, accuracy and chapters revised instead.
  • Ignoring school or board obligations: Enter known school tests, practical work and board preparation into the weekly plan. Otherwise, those duties will break the schedule.
  • Repeating favourite chapters: Green chapters need maintenance, not daily attention. Recoverable amber chapters need the repair hours.
  • Giving one red chapter unlimited time: Set a time budget. If prerequisites are too large and timed performance does not improve, return to a better chapter.

How should you execute the complete 90-day plan?

Run the plan in three phases, with questions and tests taking a larger share each month. Days 1–30 use about 60% concept repair and 40% questions. Days 31–60 shift to 35% repair and 65% timed practice. Days 61–90 use about 20% targeted repair and 80% revision, mixed practice, papers and analysis.

What should you complete during Days 1–30?

Begin Days 1–30 with the baseline diagnostic paper and green, amber and red chapter classification. Use about 60% of your time for concept repair and 40% for questions. Close prerequisite gaps, create short recall sheets and solve chapter-wise PYQs immediately after revising each topic.

Use this phase to:

  • Close prerequisite gaps that block several chapters
  • Repair mainly amber chapters
  • Make short formula, exception and reaction sheets
  • Solve chapter-wise PYQs immediately after revision
  • Maintain green chapters through short mixed sets
  • Take periodic part-syllabus tests instead of waiting until Day 60

The 60:40 split applies to actual time. In a two-hour chapter block, about 70 minutes may go to repair and 50 minutes to questions. If the chapter is already amber, reverse that balance sooner.

What should change during Days 31–60?

During Days 31–60, reduce theory and give 65% of study time to timed PYQs, mixed sets and part-syllabus tests. Keep about 35% for concept repair. A chapter should leave this phase only after a timed exit test shows at least 70% accuracy on a timed mixed set.

If accuracy is below that level, identify the error type and repair only the failing part. Do not automatically repeat the whole chapter.

Continue periodic tests during these 30 days. A test every 7 to 10 days is enough for most students if each one is analysed properly. Daily full papers at this stage would consume time needed for chapter conversion.

What should happen during Days 61–90?

During Days 61–90, shift about 80% of your work to revision, mixed practice, full papers and analysis. Keep only 20% for targeted repair. Full papers should become regular at roughly two per week, rather than daily, because each paper still needs same-day analysis and repair.

Use the remaining days for:

  • Full-paper attempts under fixed conditions
  • Detailed analysis on the same day
  • Formula and reaction recall
  • Mixed PCM practice
  • Reattempting marked errors
  • Improving question selection
  • Repairing only weaknesses that repeatedly cost marks

The mock progression should be one baseline paper, periodic tests during the first 60 days and roughly two full papers per week in the final month. This leaves enough time between tests to repair the errors they expose.

Stop adding major new chapters during the final 10 days. A new chapter is acceptable only when it is short, prerequisite-light and directly testable through standard questions. Long theory chains and difficult red chapters are poor final-week investments.

How can you tell if the 90-day strategy is working?

Track five numbers each week: net study hours, questions attempted, accuracy, revised chapters and mock or test score. Review them every seven days to adjust the next week’s work, not rebuild the entire plan after one weak result. Trends across two weeks matter more than one unusually good or bad paper.

Your weekly scorecard should contain:

  • Net study hours: Actual focused time, excluding meals, breaks and passive sitting
  • Questions attempted: Count serious attempts, not merely solutions read
  • Accuracy: Correct answers as a share of attempted questions
  • Revised chapters: Chapters revised through recall and questions
  • Mock or test score: Record the score under proper timed conditions

Maintain an error log with four labels:

  • Concept gap: You did not know or understand the required idea
  • Formula or fact recall: You knew the chapter but failed to retrieve a formula, reaction, exception or fact
  • Calculation or reading error: The method was correct, but execution failed
  • Time-selection error: You chose a poor question, stayed too long or left an easier question unseen

For every mock, choose the three highest-value repairs. Do not copy every error into a large notebook without priority. A repeated formula failure, an avoidable calculation habit and poor Mathematics selection may matter more than ten isolated difficult questions.

Keep one half-day each week as a buffer for unfinished work and cumulative revision. If one day is missed, move only the highest-priority task into this buffer. Do not double the next day’s timetable.

If two consecutive weekly scores stagnate, reduce new learning and increase timed mixed practice plus analysis. Review the chapter list every seven days, update green, amber and red status, then begin the next week with the highest-return amber chapter.
